A review on the case of village institutes in Turkish novel

The Village Institutes were established with the Law No. 3803 dated 17 April 1940. The aim of the institutes was to provide a radical solution to the educational problems faced after the Republic. For this purpose, talented village children were trained as well-equipped teachers after five years of education and had a say in the project of village development. The Village Institutes were closed down on January 24, 1954, when the Democratic Party came to power after the 1950 elections by adjoining them to the Teacher Training Schools. The Village Institutes had a certain impact on the country in terms of both education and literature within fourteen years. Thus, intellectuals who grew up in institutes became the pioneers of their own literature with a romantic sense. In this sense, the term "Village Writers" was born. The novels of these writers were created in the context of the values that the Village Institutes wanted to give to the public and the villagers by coming to the attention level in Turkish literature. In this study, some novels about Village Institutes are examined in terms of their material elements and their relation to Village Institutes. As a result, it was understood that these novels were born from Village Institutes.
