The evaluation of crime in Turkish cinema within the context of characters: "Daha" (More), "Kardeşler" (Brothers) and "Güvercin Hırsızları" (Pigeon thiefs) movies

The subject of the study is the examination of fictional productions with the theme of children dragged into crime between 2017-2018 in recent Turkish cinema. In this study, the relationship between cinema, child and crime is discussed in the context of Turkish cinema, sociology, criminology and childhood. The main purpose of the thesis is to reveal how the discourses of the films about children dragged into crime in recent Turkish cinema are constructed in the context of characters who is children dragged into crime. The discourse constructed in cinema movies can both make a social problem visible and shape this problem in the audience's world of thought. In this context, it is important to examine the discourse of the films that describe the subject of the child dragged into crime, which is a social problem. For this reason, the films "Daha" (More), "Kardeşler" (The Brothers) and "Güvercin Hırsızları" (The Pigeon Thieves), which were determined by the purposeful sampling method in the thesis, were analyzed with the method of "dialectically related discourse analysis" developed by Fairclough for the analysis of social problems. As a result of the analysis, it has been seen that these films, which center the problem of the child dragged into crime, which is a social problem, bear the traces of the realism movement. As a result of the study, it has been seen that the family institution is the most important factor in the dragged into crime of the child in the discourse of all three films. It has been determined that the themes of masculinity and women's issues stand out within the scope of patriarchy in the discourse of the films analyzed, and in this context, children are dragged into crime.
