Freedom and Solidarity Party at the Turkish political life

Freedom and Solidarity Party was founded at 22 January 1996. Freedom and Solidarity Party (ÖDP), is a pluralist revalutionary mass party comprised of various socialist groups from different political traditions. First General President was Ufuk Uras.The party recognizes the legitimacy of different opinions and guarantees the rights of minorities within the organization. ÖDP considers the existence of different tendencies as its major resource of richness.The Party, polled %0,8 of the vote in 1999 general election. This is a big dissapointment. A deep internal crisis followed by 2001. Several of the initial groups left from party. In 2002 elections, the party received %0.3 of the national vote. Ufuk Uras, demited from general present because of the disepointment. In the 2004 local elections, the ÖDP won of two town halls in Artvin and Yozgat provinces. In the 2004 local elections the ÖDP was represented in an electoral coalition with the DEHAP and the left Social Democrat SHP (Sosyaldemokrat Halk Partisi). The coalition won %5 vote of the nationwide.ÖDP, ranked with Turkish democracy history a different place with their actions and thesis. The Party attached importance to freedom, solidarity and peace. The Party, taked aim at new socialism.
