Abstract (EN)

, re-civilization of the administration after 1980 military intervention, the efforts to return to democracy and the legal activities carried out in this process were examined. The activities of the People's Party, which emerged after the political party activities were allowed, and the traces left by the party in Turkish politics were analyzed. The situation in which social democrats exist following the liberalization of political party activities after the regulations made, was dealed in details. The People's Party, which obtained the sufficiency stipulated by laws, announced its legal entity and appeared before public prior to general elections. Before the 1983 General Elections, other social democratic organizations either could not be established due to disagreements or could not fulfilled the requirements stipulated by law. Having shown a reasonable success in the 1983 General Elections, People's Party's position become controversial owing to vote rate that it obtained in subsequently done 1984 Local Elections. The influence of the Social Democratic Party, which entered into election together with itself and which was also a party based on social opinion, on that result could not be denied. In our thesis, both the 1983 General Elections and the results of the 1984 Local Elections are discussed in detail. After the 1984 Local Elections, by virtue of the vote rate it obtained, the right to be the representative of left in the presence of public was seen belonging to the Social Democratic Party. In this way, for People's Party, which had been claimed to be a collusion party since its date of establishment, to remain under intraparty opposition and intense criticism coming from social democratic front fairly worn out the party and its administrators. Changes, which occurred in the administration of People's Party after local elections, did not terminate disturbances within the party and the events ended up with the change of party leader. Following the change of leader that happened, the decision to unite with the Social Democratic Party, which is the representative of social democrats, was settled. In our thesis, the process of merger, the disputes in public opinion caused by merger and the legal regulations are examined and the required explanations are presented in detail.
