Abstract (EN)

This study comprehensively examines the place and usage of Turkish symbols (tamgas), a deep-rooted element of Turkish culture, in contemporary fashion design. Throughout history, tamgas have been used by Turkish communities to express concepts such as identity, power, and beliefs. These symbols, which have been a significant part of cultural heritage from the ancient Turks of Central Asia to the present day, are being rediscovered and interpreted in modern fashion design. In the first section of the study, the historical development of Turkish tamgas, their areas of use, and the symbolic meanings they carry are discussed in depth. The tradition of tamgas in Turkish societies and the social, religious, and political meanings of these symbols are explored, emphasizing their importance in forming cultural identity. In the second section, the use of traditional motifs in fashion design and the impact of cultural symbols on fashion are addressed. This section, particularly focusing on the place of Turkish tamgas and motifs in the global fashion world, bridges the traditional and modern, revealing how Turkish symbols are reinterpreted in contemporary designs. In this context, the aesthetic meaning of tamgas and their contribution to fashion's originality are highlighted, and the reshaping of cultural identity and historical heritage through contemporary designs is investigated. Another focus of the study is how Turkish designers and brands incorporate these symbols in their collections. In this scope, case studies and examples of the use of Turkish tamgas in current fashion trends are presented. Both in the local and international fashion worlds, the adoption of these symbols as a cultural expression and their integration into designs are examined in detail. Additionally, the influence of these symbols in the global fashion industry and how designers use them as a cultural renewal element is researched. In the final section of the study, the future role and impact of Turkish tamgas in fashion design are evaluated. The contribution of these symbols to creating cultural awareness and forming identity both in Turkey and globally is discussed, and their sustainability in modern design and potential within contemporary fashion trends are examined. As a result, it is revealed that Turkish tamgas are not only an aesthetic element in the fashion world but also a tool reflecting and carrying cultural heritage into the future.
