Abstract (EN)
Childhood obesity especially have a high prevelance in developed countries, although the prevalence is still increasing all over the world. Childhood obesity should be closely monitored for its major impact on the public health. Many researchers have made many studies with MC4R gene and near MC4R polymorphisms which can be associated with monogenic childhood obesity and adult obesity. In this study the relationship between MC4R gene and near MC4R polymorphisms such as; Ser58Cys, Val50Met, Ile102Ser, Val103Ile, Asn274Ser, rs17782313 and rs17700633 with childhood obesity in Turkish population has been searched.Val50Met polymorphism was found to be high in the control group and a negative correlation was determined with the childhood obesity. Near MC4R polymorphism rs17700633 was associated with insulin resistance and regarding rs17782313 polymorphism, the polymorphic allele fequency was higher in the obes group. Finally, we find that %40.4 of the rs17782313 polymorphism carriers also have rs17700633 polymorphism at the same time. Our study and additional studies in this area with the participation of more patients can help to detect the genetic origin of the obesity and maybe the test panel can be performed to detect risk groups.
