Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted as a methodological research in order to evaluate the fertility belief in Turkish population and to test the validity and reliability of The Fertility Belief Questionnaire on infertile women by adapting to Turkish population. The research was performed between April and November 2019 in Gaziantep University Şahinbey Research and Training Hospital Obstetrics & Gynecology Department, and Cengiz Gökçek Obstetrics Gynecology and Children's Hospital by obtaining institutional permissions. The sample of the study consisted of 150 women with infertility that had no communication problems and volunteered to participate in the study. "Descriptive Characteristics Form", "The Fertility Belief Questionnaire", and "Infertility Distress Scale" were used for data collection. The statistical analysis of the data obtained from the research was done by using the IBM SPSS Statistics 24 package program and the AMOS 22.00 program. First, the language validity of the scale was performed. Expert opinion analysis was conducted for the content validity and the Content Validity Index of the scale was calculated as 0.88. Confirmatory and exploratory factor analyses were performed and two factors were combined and five subscale structure were accepted. In reliability analysis, Cronbach's alpha values of the "Consequences", "Coherence" and "Possible causes" subscales were between 0.76-0.81 and showed high reliability Cronbach's alpha values of "Timeline" and "Illness control" subscales were found to be 0.548 and 0.593, respectively. All item total correlation values were positive. Significant positive intercorrelation was found between test-retest in "Consequences", "Coherence" and "Illness control" subscales (p <0.01). The economic status, age of marriage, duration of marriage, and the number of infertility treatments affected the fertility belief of women. As a result; it was evaluated that The Fertility Belief Questionnaire is a valid and reliable tool for Turkish population and it can be used to evaluate fertility belief in infertile women.
