Acquisition and loss of Turkish citizenship

In Turkish citizenship laws, some innovations have been brought from past to present depending on the citizenship legal systematic in the acquisition and loss of citizenship. Although these innovations did not change radically in terms of their general content, there were some differences. Regarding the acquisition and loss of citizenship, based on the Turkish Citizenship Law No. 5901, 2009, the content and procedure of the law constitutes the interest frame of my study. In this study, which was conducted as a result of the literature review, emphasis was placed on how Turkish citizenship was acquired and lost in the law, the issue of harmonization with the European Union Acquis and the European Citizenship Convention, it was examined based on the domestic law dimension and evaluated. The acquisition of Turkish citizenship is analyzed under two main titles: "birth" (originally) and "later" (vested) citizenship. While Turkish citizenship acquired by birth is acquired spontaneously on the basis of the "lineage" and "place of birth", subsequent acquisition of citizenship is possible by the decision of the Competent Authority, Adoption and Selection. Citizenship laws have collected the loss of citizenship in two groups. Citizenship laws have brought the loss of Turkish citizenship into two groups. The first of these is "Losses with the decision of the competent authority" and the second is "the cases of loss with the exercise of the right to choose" depending on the will of the person. Loss of Turkish citizenship by decision of the competent authority; Withdrawing from Turkish citizenship with permission, the decision to lose Turkish citizenship and to win Turkish citizenship is canceled. The loss of citizenship with the right to choose is valid from the date of decision upon completion of the conditions specified in the law.
