Turkish-Greek economic relations (1980-2010)

In this study the economic relations between Turkey and Greece and the probability of conflict resolution through these relations were examined. In the analysing process the ?complex interdependence? theory of Keohane and Nye was chosen. According to this theory, the interdependence which relates the parties on economy could ward the conflicted parties off the conflict and bring them to a new process which they could gain economic profit via trade.In this context, the relation between economy and politics, the meaning and the existence features of the complex interdependence theory were examined. In the second chapter, it was checked up on the historical problems between the chosen parties, Greece and Turkey, and the Turkey?s transformation after 1980s. After that Turkey?s relations with the European Union as a connection between the two states were analyzed. Finally, the economic activities between Turkey and Greece were analyzed and the probability of an interdependence between the parties was tried to put forth. Besides, Turkey?s new policy understanding which is convergence with the neighbours that prefered with the Justice and Development Party government in Turkey and the reflections of this policy to Greece were studied.Consequently, in the end of the examinatorial, it was commented that an interdependence has not exist on the economic relations between Turkey and Greece yet; but looking at the process and the cooperation on economic and political issues give us the chance to be optimistic.Keywords: Turkey, Greece, complex interdependence, political economy.
