Abstract (EN)

The Bouzouki as a most traditional and popular instrument of Greek music is very important musical instrument between Turkey and Greece according to common history of these two neighbor countries. In this paper we have tried to resolve the problem of less information about bouzouki with instrument making perspective while making a new bouzouki kind musical instrument which we call bowed bouzouki. Also I have tried to connect my knowledge that I learned in İstanbul Technical University during my studies in the department of bowed instrument making with bouzouki making as a special research area of my current life. To reach the sources that written in Greek, I used my knowledge of Greek which I am attending the language lessons in Greek Consulate in Istanbul for over three years. The bowed bouzouki is made by me as a handcrafted instrument in my studio. During the process I tried to use traditional instrument making techniques as much as I can. One of the aims of building bowed bouzouki is to find the answer for the question: "how bowed instrument sounds from bouzouki acoustic box?". The other aim of this project is to give a new perspective to the traditional bouzouki. I believe that the bowed bouzouki will take place in the orchestras which play rembetika music. After the making of bowed bouzouki I arrange interview with some luthiers and musicians to collect feedback about this musical instrument to develop this project in the future.
