Semantic and cultural analysis of the idioms and proverbs containing the concept of mother and father in Turkish and German

In this study, the proverbs and idioms of the Turkish and German societies have been dealt with in a comparative way. The study has been limited to the proverbs and idioms including the concepts of "mother" and "father". The reason is that these concepts play an effective role in the establishment of the society and so, reflect the society. These concepts are studied in terms of woman and man. How these concepts are interpreted in both communities has also been studied. This study consists of four parts. In the first section; language, culture, language and culture relations are emphasized. In the second part, the definitions of the idioms and proverbs, their usages, characteristics and studies done on these concepts are discussed. The sections forming the basis of the study are the third and the fourth ones. In the third part; German and Turkish proverbs and idioms having the words "mother" and "father" are emphasized comparatively, and their similarities, affinities, and differences have been searched semantically and culturally. In the fourth section; German and Turkish proverbs and idioms including the words "mother" and "father" have been compared semantically and culturally by dealing them with the same point of view and method. Dictionaries of KFW Wander, Lutz Röhrich, Wolf Friederich and Duden Redewendungen were looked up for the German proverbs and idioms, and dictionaries of Ömer Asım Aksoy, Ali Püsküllüoğlu, Metin Yurtbaşı and E. Kemal Eyüboğlu were looked up for theTurkish idioms and proverbs. The proverbs and idioms obtained have been evaluated semantically and culturally in both cultures. As a result, it has been found out that, these concepts have similar meanings in both cultures, and it was aimed at revealing the similarities and differences between the proverbs and the idioms including these concepts in both languages.
