Abstract (EN)

In this study, the usage level of cohesion instruments in written expressions of Egyptian students who learned Turkish as a foreign language has been evaluated. The aim of the research is to determine the usage level of cohesion instruments of the students who are studying in Egypt and to offer solutions in this regard. Cohesion as a concept that has been studied in the world since 1976 and in Turkey since 1987 has been a topic of research in teaching Turkish as a foreign language in recent years. This study was conducted in Egypt, which is a country where the teaching of Turkish as a foreign language is highly demanded, in Yunus Emre Enstitüsü Kahire Turkish Culture Center (Abbreviated as YETKM) with 100 students at levels A2, B1, B2 and C1 among the approximately 500 students forming the universe in the 2014-2015 academic year. It is the first study to deal with the instruments of cohesion in written expressions of Egyptian learners learning Turkish. This study includes evaluating the written expression aris done by selecting one of 10 different subjects prepared by taking expert opinions according to the level of the usage of cohesion instruments. This evaluation was made with the "Cohesion Rating Scale". The results of the study were analyzed by SPSS 21.0 (Statistic Package for Social Science). The study using descriptive, relational screening model is both qualitative and quantitative, applied field study in terms of evaluating data. As a result of the study; The usage frequency of cohesion elements has been identified as lexical cohesion, connection elements, elliptical expression, reference and substitution from high to low. As the level increased, the increase in the frequency of use and in the level of correct use was observed periodically, but no significant difference was found. In general, it has become clear that the usage level of cohesion instruments in written expressions of students is weak. Within the total written expression studies, it has been concluded that the learners used relative pronoun from reference elements; reducing particles from elliptical expression elements; all substitution elements; elements stating distinction, sequencing, explanation and assumption from connectors in every level, never or almost never. Keywords: Textuality criteria, text, written expression, cohesion, teaching Turkish as a foreign language.
