Examination of Kutadgu Bilig and sample text in terms of value education in Turkish curriculum

Values education is increasingly important. This situation is also reflected in the curriculum. In this study from the curriculum The Social Studies Curriculum, which was published in 2005 and was one of the first programs that MEB offered a list of values and The Turkish Curriculum (grades 6-8) published in 2006, The Turkish Curriculum (grades 1-8) published in 2015 and The Turkish Curriculum (grades 1-8) published in 2019 were examined. It has been determined that the programs have included twenty-four values. These are: justice, caring for family unity, peace, scientificity, hardworking, solidarity, friendship, sensitivity, honesty, aesthetics, equality, toleration, hospitality, self-control, freedom, patience, caring for being healthy, respect, love, responsibility, savings, cleanliness, consistency and helpfulness. Kutadgu Bilig, one of the first examples of Turkish-Islamic literature, is an advicebook. It is seen that values are also included in this ancient work which contains many advices. Kutadgu Bilig has been handled in detail in the context of the above-mentioned twenty-four values and these values have been determined and presented in the study with examples. Again, for each of these twenty-four values, texts were prepared separately and their suitability for secondary school 7th and 8th grade Turkish textbooks was predicted by seeking expert opinions. In addition, the values that can be expressed as the value in the work were determined and presented with examples. In the study, descriptive analysis and content analysis were used by using document scanning model. Expert opinion was taken to predict the content validity of the texts. As a result; Considering Kutadgu Bilig's rich content in terms of values and the variety of expressions decorated with figures of speech, it has been determined that Turkish course is very suitable to be used as a resource in values education.
