Increasing awareness of language teachers on universal issues in turkish teaching

In the century we are in, our world is rapidly globalizing economically, politically and culturally, and therefore it is thought that it will not be a rational approach to remain insensitive to these developments. Reflections of changes or developments in any country have become inevitable in another country. These events raise the importance of global education in language teaching. This study aims to increase the awareness of language teachers in the teaching of Turkish to Foreigners about global issues and values in their classrooms as a necessity to measure the level of their knowledge about global issues and values and to increase their awareness about them. . For this purpose, this research was carried out with Turkish language teachers working in the Turkish and Foreign Language Teaching Center. The scope of the study covers Turkey's TÖMER operating in seven different regions and its language instructors teaching 2019-2020 academic year. Accordingly, a questionnaire study on this subject was applied online to the teachers who participated in the study. The data obtained were analyzed through the SPSS 21 package program. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the participants were willing to apply global issues and values in their classrooms, and some of them already applied them in their classrooms. Realizing that the global problems are the subjects that should be included in the lessons, some of the tutors were found to have some experience on these subjects and some had no experience. In the selection of global topics and values, although the participants have various opinions, most of them think that the topics and values in the survey should be discussed and processed in the classrooms. While deciding on these issues and values, they stated that teachers should play an active role in this process, both individually and as a group, by international institutions and organizations and senior government levels. It was found that the participants included various activities and techniques in the teaching of global topics and values. It has been found that the teachers teach their lessons mainly by discussing these topics and by making question-answer. Apart from this, it was found that the participants read the text, ask questions and give writing assignments, perform role plays and include activities such as projects / assignments. It was found that a large part of the participants stated that the questionnaire increased their awareness about global issues and values and their use in language teaching. In addition, it was observed through this study that participants expressed their awareness about the importance of global education.
