A research on children's games that can be used in teaching Turkish and recommendations for new children's games

The aim of this study is to explain the relationship between basic language skills in teaching Turkish and children's games and to identify examples of children's games that will contribute to the development of these skills. The research data were analyzed using the qualitative research method. In this context, it was evaluated which of the listening, speaking, reading and writing skills the games develop and the effect on these skills by applying content analysis. The universe of the study consists of all the games played by children from the past to the present, while the sample includes games that effect teaching Turkish and basic language skills. The sample selection was based on random sampling and cluster sampling methods. Listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, which are under the main headings of understanding and telling, that form the basis of teaching Turkish, also establish the basis of lifelong learning. Considering that lifelong learning is shaped around language, it is seen that these four basic language skills form an infrastructure for the teaching and use of language. Within the scope of this study, based on the assumption that the desire to play is a lifelong impulse, an examination was carried out on the teaching of four basic language skills with games. As a result of the study, it was found that the language skills that form the basis of teaching Turkish can be grasped more quickly with these games, as the child's desire to play games is transferred to the classroom environment.
