The effect of creative drama method on Apollonian and Dionysian development of narration skills and reception in Turkish teaching

Language functions as a living system, fostering communication among people. It undergoes continual change influenced by its users and adapts to the needs of each era. Capturing the essence and vitality inherent in language is crucial in its development and teaching. The integration of the creative drama method in Turkish language teaching aligns with the philosophy of linguistics to sustain this vitality. Language, as an integral part of life, should not be isolated from creativity. From this perspective, the impact of the creative drama method on students' expression skills and their Apollonian and Dionysian development and reception in Turkish language teaching was investigated. The study aimed to discern differences between the experimental group, where lessons were planned to use the creative drama technique, and the control group, where traditional techniques were employed in Turkish teaching. Assessment focused on expression skills, Apollonian and Dionysian development, and reception levels. Additionally, students' attitudes towards drama and their perceptions of the Turkish lesson were determined. The study employed the experimental method of "pre-test - post-test control group." The study group comprised 40 fifth-grade students from Ayşe Melahat Erkin Secondary School in the Alanya district of Antalya province. Data collection utilized an achievement test, which was designed considering reading, speaking, writing, and comprehension achievements outlined in the 5th-grade Turkish language teaching program. The achievement test, encompassing a speaking and a writing activity, underwent analysis using an analytical rubric crafted based on expert opinions. Additionally, the study incorporated attitude scales gauging participants' attitudes towards the drama method and their perceptions of the Turkish lesson. The study is structured into five chapters. The first chapter provides a general overview, outlines the main problem along with its sub-problems, articulates the research's purpose and significance, and concludes by presenting assumptions and limitations. In the second chapter, the research delves into defining the concepts pertinent to the study and elucidates the research topic with support from existing literature. The third chapter expounds on the methodology employed in the study, detailing the data collection tools and data analysis methods utilized. The fourth chapter is dedicated to presenting the findings derived from the collected data. Finally, the fifth chapter encapsulates the ultimate results derived from the research, engages in discussions on the obtained results, and provides recommendations for future studies.
