An investigation of the perceptions of 21st century skills and self-ethics of Turkish teacher candidates in terms of various variables

The aim of this research is to examine the self-efficacy perceptions of Turkish teacher candidates for 21st century skills in terms of various variables. In this quantitative study, a descriptive survey model was used since Turkish teacher candidates' self-efficacy perception levels of 21st century skills were examined according to different variables. The data in the research were collected from the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade students who voluntarily participated in the research, studying at the Department of Turkish Education at state universities. The "21st Century Skills Perceptions of Self-Efficacy Scale of Pre- service Teachers" developed by Anagün, Atalay, Kılıç, and Yaşar (2016) and aiming to measure pre-service teachers' perceptions of 21st century skills was used to collect data and also "Personal Information Form" prepared by the researcher was used to determine the demographic characteristics of the participants. Since face-to-face education could not be provided in schools due to the Covid-19 epidemic, a link was created by transferring the measurement tool to the virtual environment and this link was shared with 277 Turkish teacher candidates studying at state universities. Parametric tests were applied in the analysis of the data, and the calculation was made by considering the average scores of the scale answers. "Independent T-test" and "One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA)" were used to compare "scale sub-dimension scores" according to "categorical groups". "Tukey test" was used to determine different groups and Pearson correlation coefficients were calculated to determine the relationships between "scale dimension scores" and SPSS statistical package program was used for analysis. In the study, it was concluded that the 21st century skills self-efficacy perceptions of Turkish teacher candidates differ in some sub-dimensions according to the variables of gender, place of residence, mother's education level and class level, and it did not differ in terms of the variables of the geographical region of residence, father's education level, family income level, and the type of high school graduated.
