Pronunciation errors made by Turkish teachers in daily spoken language

Human is a social living creature that speaks, shares and communicates in every way. The communication of individuals affects society. Teachers are the most effective people who act as role models for those around them, especially for their students, when speaking correctly, properly and effectively in a society. The most important points that teachers, who are examples to the society in every way, should pay attention to are that they pronounce the words correctly and speak effectively, beautifully and fluently without making any speech mistakes. Unfortunately, we have many teachers whose diction is not correct, who cannot pronounce words correctly, and who continue to communicate with incorrect usages ingrained in their language. The aim of this research is to identify the words that are unknowingly mispronounced in daily speech among Turkish teachers and to show their correct pronunciation through this study and to make them understand the importance of diction. Thirty (30) secondary school Turkish teachers working in public secondary schools in Kütahya participated in this study, which draws attention to the importance of being able to use our beautiful Turkish effectively, in the 2024-2025 academic year. A semi-structured interview form consisting of open-ended and multiple choice questions was used as a data collection tool. Data were collected in writing with this interview form and by audio recording to fully understand the pronunciation of some parts. The collected data was also examined with content analysis. It was observed that more than half of the f(30) Turkish teachers mispronounced f(38) among the f(64) words given in the interview form with a rate of 59.38%. Some of the most mispronounced words are; "teacher" f(20), "pain" f(23), "health" f(21), "rain" f(21)," yoghurt" f(22), "mouth" f(21), "education f(22)," mill f(21), "liver" f(21), "watcher" f(25), "drink" f(26), "where to" f(29),"rich" The correct pronunciation words are f(25), self f(26), asa f(30). It was observed that the teachers mostly made mistakes in the pronunciation of vowel contraction, ulama, words containing "ğ", adjective verb suffix and closed "e".
