Voice concept in Turkish, voice teaching according to government and binding theory

The aim of this research is to investigate the effect of the syllabuses prepared according to the Government and Binding Theory (after this GBT), a syntax theory put forward by the famous linguist Chomsky, on the teaching of the voice in verb topic at the 8th grade. For this purpose, teaching activities were prepared in the grammar pattern formed by combining the YBK data with the functional grammar model principles in the teaching of the voice at the 8th grade level. The study group of this research consists of 83 students studying in the 8th grade class of two schools affiliated to the center of Düzce and a village school affiliated to the center of Düzce, which are determined according to the socio-economic level. The research was designed and carried out in a mixed method in which qualitative and quantitative research techniques are used together. In collecting quantitative data, single group pre-test post-test weak experimental model was used, while qualitative data consisted of student opinions in the study group, practitioner teachers' opinions and researcher observations. As a result of the research, the level of 8th graders in the study group learning about the voice in verb topic from the pre-test to the final test increased statisticly significantly with the application of utilities prepared according to the GBT. It was determined that there is a statistically significant increase from pre-test to post-test in the learning levels of the students about voice in verb topic. It was determined that the qualitative data obtained from the opinions of students and teachers supported these positive and meaningful results of the study.
