The effect of the consept mapping on vocabulary teaching in teaching language as a foreign language

Concept mapping technique is a semantic relationships cluster which provides making information concrete and being transformed into visual. It is a technique that is based on being classified words according to their semantic relationships. Concept maps consist of being created the connection between words and concept,being classified the information and being showed up its semantic relationships. Concept mapping is a technique that is used by the language learners to advance their word storage. The basic aim of the study is to research the effect of the concept mapping technique on vocabulary teaching comparing to concept mapping technique and traditional methods on vocabulary teaching process.The study is practices on the students who learn Turkish in A2 level in Gazi University-TÖMER.It is used pre-test and post-test pattern which are the true experimental models with control group in the study.In the reseach, It is used two groups including experimental and control group.Each of these groups is created with 20 students who complete A1 level.While the concept mapping technique is used in the experimental group,the traditional methods are used in the control group for the vocabulary teaching process. Practice process which lasts 8 weeks is implemented on the both groups. Vocabulary achievement test which ensured the validity with the expert view that is developed by the researcher to collect data and the reliability with the KR-20 test is used.Vocabulary achievement test is practices as pre-test and post-test for two groups. With t-test and SPSS program is used in analysing data.It is evaluated whether there is a reasonable difference between groups or not. When the data getting from the study is evaluated, It is concluded that both concept mapping technique and traditional methods are efficient on vocabulary teaching.However, when the experimental and control groups are compared to each other, concept mapping technique is more efficient than the traditional methods on vocabulary teaching has been detected.
