A Turkish translation of Richard Knolles' the Generall Historie of the Turkes, From the First Beginning of That Nationto the Rising of the Othoman Familie: With all the NotableExpeditions of the Christian Princes Against Them

In this thesis Richard Knolles's The Generall History of the Turkes's first chapter named The Generall History of the Turkes, from the first beginning of that Nation to the rising of the Othoman Familie: with all the notable expeditions of the Christian Princes against them is translated into Turkish and the names appeared in the work along with the chapter are analyzed. There will be also information about Richard Knolles' life and works, though it is mostly on his work's first chapter. This chapter includes the supposed genesis of the Turks, their first homeland, their migration into Anatolia, according to Knolles' research and it mostly includes the crusades embarked upon Turkish states and unto the Saracens in the Levant. Richard Knolles was a 16th century scholar lived in Sandwich, Kent, and he served as a school master for most of his life. The patron of his school encouraged him commit this enterprise which was to arrange known European sources about the Turks and create this work named The Generall History of the Turkes. This work was the first largest one that was written about the Turks in English with the number of 1200 folios. Once its first edition was published in 1603, it became very popular among the English society and more editions were printed in later years with extra information. This thesis is about the first edition that was published in 1603. Here, the first chapter of the same edition will be analyzed and faithfully translated into Turkish.
