RPP's counter-hegemony struggle during the 1973-1980 in Turkey

The leftist political movement, which was strengthened by the right to organize in Turkey with the 1961 Constitution, was crushed by the 1971 Military Memorandum. In this period, the Republican People's Party (RPP) described itself as a left-of-centre party for the first time. Bulent Ecevit became the leader of the party in 1972 with this policy to embrace this slogan. Thus, the left wing increased its power within the RPP. With the amnesty that the RPP enacted for left-wing intellectuals and students in prison in 1973, its relations with the leftist political movement became stronger. The economic, social and cultural changes that planted the seeds in the 1960s and revealed throughout the 1970s caused the years 1973-80 to turn into an organic crisis period. In this study, it was assumed that the RPP undertook the counter-hegemony struggle in Turkey's organic crisis period. This period has been studied on the basis of Gramsci's political concepts. It has been researched how the RPP established its counter-hegemony struggle. It has been evaluated whether this can be read as a counter-hegemony struggle in Gramscian perspective. In the literature review, it has been seen that there are studies on counter-hegemonic struggles carried out on the basis of various periods and various political parties in Turkey. However, no thesis study on a Gramscian counter-hegemonic struggle of the RPP based on the 1973-80 organic crisis period has been encountered. In this study; the literature was searched within party documents, newspapers, magazines and other documents between the period 1973-80.
