The effect of the economic crises after 1980 in Turkey on the approach of the social state

As of 2023, we are in the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey. This hundred-year historical process; It has been the scene of various policies, changes and transformations, both geographically and with our rich social texture and our historical and cultural existence as a nation, dating back more than a hundred years. Policies, changes and transformations experienced within the scope of this process; It also contains issues that require examination and evaluation in terms of social sciences. One of these issues is; It is the impact of the economy and economic crises on the understanding of the social state. In this study; The economic crises experienced in Turkey after 1980; Focused on its impact on the understanding of the social state. In the period specified as after 1980; The economic crises experienced in 1994, 2001 and 2008 were discussed. The concepts of social state and economic crisis have been examined and the theoretical relationship between them has been tried to be interpreted. During the economic crisis periods of 1994, 2001 and 2008, the general understanding of the social state was; It was tried to be expressed through the policies implemented by the state at that time. However, the impact of the economic crises experienced after 1980 on the understanding of the social state will be interpreted within the context of changes in social policies, tax policies and social expenditures. General political attitudes of states, their approaches to social and tax policies; These have been accepted as determining factors in the existence and development of the social state concept. The real increase in public expenditures, public social expenditures and GDP for the period 1991-2015, including the years of economic crisis after 1980; It was compiled and transferred from the data of the Court of Accounts compliance reports for the relevant years. In addition, the outlook of social expenditures for the economic crisis years of 1994, 2001 and 2008; It was compiled and transferred from the Ministry of Finance data in five-year periods as 1990-1996, 2000-2005 and 2006-2011. Significant data for the relevant years; It clarified the aspect and details of the social state understanding being affected by economic crises. In this context; There have been outputs from which we can speculate on preventing or eliminating the negative effects of the social state understanding. In addition, the subject; It can be stated that in today's world, where global economic problems are experienced, it is open to add- ons and development.
