Transformation of change in the banking sector in Turkey after the year 2000

This thesis aims to examine in detail the stages that the banking sector in Turkey went through in 2000 and after. The changes and transitions that occur in this process are examined on a sectoral basis and on an individual bank basis. The period in question is a period in which the prevalence and contagion of globalization and economic crises increased throughout the world. This thesis, which aims to answer questions such as how our banks were affected by this situation in this period and how the structure of the sector changed, also aims to understand the role of the banking sector in increasing the depth of capital and spreading it to the base. An attempt is made to take a picture of the banks that were closed and taken over during this period and the structure of the relevant sector. In particular, variables such as bank outlooks, income and profitability are monitored; It has been tried to be reflected by making use of a citation-based literature. The year 2000, when the first significant reflections of globalization were seen in the financial sector, resulted in the transformation of the Turkish banking sector into a multinational structure in a country that was completely national. Although this structure indicates that the sector has become more resilient in fluctuations such as the 2008 global financial crisis and the coronavirus pandemic that occurred in later years, it is seen that banks with foreign partners are predominant. In addition, there is the phenomenon of deposit dollarization, which is expressed as resident citizens preferring foreign currency instead of domestic currency while accumulating value. The need for outsourcing continues from the 2000s to the present. It is necessary to improve the savings and investment efficiency of the banking sector in the Turkish financial system.
