Abstract (EN)
Introduction and Aim: Traffic crashes leads to more than 1 million deaths and 20-50 million injuries or disability every year. Traffic accident injuries are globally significant public health problem. In this study, it is aimed to determine the number of people involved in traffic crashes, the number of vehicles, in which regions, in which time interval, and to reveal the reasons of traffic accidents by numerical analysis of traffic accidents that happened. Materials and Methods: In this study, traffic accident and vehicle statistics data of TUIK website were used. Traffic crashes between the years 2016-2020 have been analysed from the TUIK database, and they have been classified. The data in this study were evaluated by using basic statistical methods. Findings: In this study, when evaluated on the basis of the years 2016-2020, it is observed that there was a drop in the number of fatal and injury accidents in 2019 and 2020, that most of the drivers involved in the accident with motorbikes passed away after the accident, that death occurred at the accident site with a high rate in tractor accidents, 55.91% of the men in fatal accidents passed away as drivers, 65.08% of women passed away as passengers, the eastern part of Turkey had a lower injury and death rate compared to western provinces as a result of traffic accidents, and the highest death rate was 65 years and over. It was observed that the age group with the highest injury rate was the 15-24 age groups, and the death or injury rates peaked in summers and at weekends. Results: We are of the opinion that traffic crashes will drop thanks to increasing traffic precautions at weekends and during summer months, by improving motorways and taking more effective measures in the light of the data.
