Sectoral and structural analysis of foreign trade between Turkey Africa countries

The main purpose of this study is analysis the relations (structural, sectoral) established by African countries with Turkey in the context of foreign trade and the opportunities, threats, risks and strengths in foreign trade. In this study, data were accessed and evaluated through different institutions and the effects of foreign trade developments on the economies of the countries were discussed. Due to the fact that the African continent has a large number of countries, relations have accelerated in terms of foreign trade, especially with Turkey's becoming an observer member of the African Union (AFB) in 2005. As part of the multidimensional process of the African Open Policy, rapid progress has been made in many areas, such as commercial and cultural projects, especially political relations with the countries of the region, investment projects, military cooperation, security and development. Turkey-Africa's trade relations increased from 3 billion dollars in 1996 to 22 billion dollars in 2019, and the trade volume in the period between (1996-2019) is approaching. In the period of 2017-2019, foreign trade structurally exported raw materials, investment and consumer goods from African countries to Turkey in proportion, respectively. Most intermediate goods have been imported. Africa is the buyer of intermediate goods from Turkey and the seller of raw materials to Turkey. When we look at the sector, it is observed that while there is a decrease in the share of agricultural products in exports between 2008 and 2020, there is an increase in the share of industrial products. In the industrial sector in 2014-2020, Turkey always gives a surplus in foreign trade to African countries. However, it is clear that Turkey has not been able to show a significant jump in exports of industrial products to Africa. In the period between 2014 and 2020, industrial exports fluctuated between $ 10 billion and $ 15 billion. It is revealed that Turkey has an increasingly important place in its trade with African countries. Keywords:
