An example of alevist politics in Turkey: The Unity Party of Turkey (1966?1981)

This thesis has been prepared by the purpose of investigating one of the first examples matching the organized representational mechanisms of Alevi politicization, Unity Party of Turkey?s (UPT) political characteristics and the position in Turkish political life.In scale of the study, the transformation of Alevilik and Alevis on the historical period has been regarded by the divergence axis which processed on two main sub-divisions Bektaşilik and Kızılbaşlık; also has been targeted to evaluate the historical characteristics of Alevis and their identities on the codes of late Ottoman era, national struggle and early republican periods by the criticization of the generally accepted objectional and jointing postulates.It?s also evaluated that the politicizing characteristic which has been siginified by the influence of pejorative perception created by the, gained in time, Sunni-authoritarian characteristic codes of political power represented by the Democratic Party (DP) and the phenomena such as the increasing level of education via the widespreadening of education oppurtunities, communication, urbanization, immigration which affect the social structure more effectively, accelerated the process organizatory politicization; additionaly evaluated the foundation of UPT over some determinants by the influence of socio-political atmosphere and the relatively libertarian constitutional framework which has been enlarging the organizational opportunities.In this context, by taking the models to approach to the foundation of the party, the search for Alevist politicization has been put on evaluation trial. Over the results gained from the general elections that the party attended, the directional way of Alevi traditional hereditary hierarchy on the Alevist political mobilization has been evaluated. The position of the character of party which has been shapened by the two main politically characteristic of converging and diverging Bektashism, one of the main sub arteries in Alevism, has been researched in Alevism and Alevist political history, Turkish political life.As a conclusionary evaluation if needed, the party, which has been concretizing the fragmentedness and the not-only processing character on denominational factor of Alevist politicization, has composed an original part of the historical section of Turkish political life related to the unegalitarian platform on which the denominational motives have been mobilised.
