Analysis of competitiveness intermediate-level-tech manufacturing industries in Turkey

Abstract (EN)

This study, primarily the competitiveness of intermediate-level-tech manufacturing industries in Tukey was measured by the Balassa RCA index. In the second stage, it is calculated that the competitiveness of the intermediate-level-tech manufacturing industries contributes to the economic growth targets of the country. In order to determine the short and long term relationships between competitiveness levels and economic growth of the sectors, ten different model were estimated by keeping control variables constant. In order to show economic growth as a dependent variable, GDP per capita (in 2010 prices) and as an independent variable RCA index values for each industry were put into models. On the other hand, net additions to capital, labor force participation rate and globalization index are included in the models as control variables. This study covers the 1990-2017 period with annual data. Using by ARDL method in short term; it has found relationships between economic growth with mineral fuel industry, chemical industry, processed leather industry, metal processing machinery industry, household appliances industry and motor vehicle industry. In the long term, all industries included in the study, except chemical industry and powering machinery industry, have significant effects on economic growth.
