Abstract (EN)

u ABSTRACT This study, which consists of an introduction, a conclusion and four chapters, aims to find out the contributions of al-'Arabiyyatu li'1-Hayât, a textbook, to the foreign language education in Turkey, in general, to the education of the Arabic, in particular. Besides, the study examines the structure and characteristics of supportive-supplemantary materials of the above-named textbook and makes suggestions when it is required. In Introduction, the significance of the study, its aim and its main theme are emphasised. Chapter One tries to investigate the education of the Arabic in Turkey under the titles of "the defination of the language", "the historical development of the education of the Arabic in Turkey and its condition today". In Chapter Two, the methods of the foreign language education are divided into three main groups as traditional, communicative and affective, and principal methods of foreign language education are considered from the points approach, design and application. Chapter Three observes the role of textbook in foreign language education. Some elements which are considered important in the process of foreign language education, syllabus design and its types, characteristics that are required in a textbook and materials are the other topics which are examined in the same chapter. Chapter Four examines and investigates the textbook al-'Arabiyyatu li'1-Hayât. After a short information about this book, the questionnaire which was prepared for students and teachers is laid under consideration and after this, some suggestions are made. Conclusion provides a general survey of the study and gives the conclusions that the study reached. Appendix One presents the questionnaire applied to students and teachers.
