iiA STUDY ON THE WAY THE CONCEPT OF MELODIC PATTERNIS USED IN THE TRADITIONAL TURKISH FOLK MUSIC SOURCE INTURKEY(High License Thesis)Hasan Tahsin SÜMBÜLLÜABSTRACTThis investigation was applied so as to evaluate the extent which the concept?Melodic Pattern? was used in the Traditional Turkish Folk Music source in Turkeyand in addition, the question of how the concept ?Melodic Pattern?, which is used inaddressing the scales of Traditional Turkish Folk Music, was used in theMinstrelhood Tradition was tried to be answered in terms of form and shape in thecontext of the investigation.In the investigation, information was obtained from various sources andmutual interviews through scanning documents in order to determine the situation,and in addition, the method ?interviewing? was utilized in order to determine howthe concept ?Melodic Pattern? is used in the tradition of Minstrelhood.In the investigation, Folk Poets living, especially, in Erzurum, Kars,Kırıkkale, Kırşehir, Sivas and Tokat were chosen.In the investigation, it was determined that the concept ?Melodic Pattern?which is used to name the scales in the Traditional Turkish Folk Music theories wasworked from the point of literary view as a factor of saying in the MinstrelhoodTradition, and it was also used as a ?Rhyme? while the concepts ?Mode or Tune?were used instead of the concept ?Melodic Pattern? as a scale.Keywords: Scale (Dizi), Melodic Pattern (Ayak), Rhyme (Kafiye), Minstrel(Aşık), Minstrelhood Tradition (Aşıklık Geleneği), Traditional Turkish Folk Music(Geleneksel Türk Halk Müziği)Thesis Supervisor: Associate Professor.
