Comparative analysis of history and geography education in Türkiye and Azerbaijan secondary school textbooks

Purpose: The aim of this research is to provide a comprehensive and comparative analy-sis of the history and geographical subjects of the textbooks "Social Studies" and "His-tory of Revolution and Kemalism of the Republic of Türkiye" taught in secondary scho-ols in Türkiye, high school 1 "History" and "Geography" textbooks and their equivalent in Azerbaijan: "General History", "History of Azerbaijan" and "Geography" textbooks in Azerbaijan, and to shed light on the similarities, differences and cultural perspectives contained in these educational materials. Method: In this study, data were collected through document analysis, which is one of the qualitative research methods. Results: It was determined that the textbooks within the scope of the research in Turkey give little space to approaches towards Azerbaijan and Turkic States. Textbooks in Azerbaijan, on the other hand, were found to include more historical information and the geography of the Turkic States was generally described in the same section. It has been observed that the most significant difference in both countries regarding the narra-tion of the Turkish States belongs to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Conclusion and Suggestions: It has been concluded that the textbooks in Azerbaijan give more space to the history of the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Türkiye, the information about the other Turkish States is less, and the information about both Azer-baijan and the Turkish States is limited in the textbooks in Türkiye.
