Examination of doctoral dissertations written in the field of physical education in Turkey

It was aimed to examine the doctoral thesis studies in the field of Physical Education within the Higher Education Institutions in Turkey with this study. In accordance with this purpose, PhD dissertations prepared in the field of Physical Education at universities were searched through the YÖK (Council of Higher Education ) Electronic Thesis Archive by means of certain keywords. The universe of the research consists of doctoral dissertations in the field of physical education. The sample of the research is composed of 93 doctorate thesis which was prepared in the field of physical education between 1990-2018, approved and published in the field of physical education, including "Physical Education" in the name of thesis in YÖK (Council of Higher Education ) Electronic Thesis Archive. A thesis examination form which developed Ataş (2015) was used in the examination of theses. Universities, institutes, branches of education, distribution according to years, gender of persons who perform the study, titles of thesis advisors, research topics, research types used, patterns and sampling groups, data collection tools, statistical methods used in analyzing data, numbers of domestic and foreign and total bibliography have been tried to be determined in doctoral dissertations prepared in the field of Physical Education. Scanning model and a qualitative data collection method are used in the research. The obtained data were analyzed using statistical programs. As a result of the findings, it was determined that the majority of the persons who carried out doctoral thesis studies in the field of Physical Education were male and that the majority of the professors who carried out the thesis counseling were professor doctors. It has been determined that the most frequently studied topics in dissertations are evaluation, comparison and comparison of attitude, teaching, model, methods and techniques, performance, access, permanence, transvers and teaching programs. it was observed that the most quantitative researches were used as the research type in these dissertations and descriptive model was mostly used as the research model. Students and teachers are mostly used as sample groups in sample groups. In addition it was seen that scales and questionnaires were used the most as data collection tools in dissertations and parametric tests have been used in statistical methods for analyzing data. It is noteworthy that the number of foreign bibliography used in doctoral dissertations is used more than the number of local bibliographies. It was determined that doctoral dissertations prepared in this area were written in 2012 at most in terms of thesis numbers. As an institute, it was seen that most of doctoral dissertations were prepared at the Institute of Educational Sciences. When examined as department it was observed that doctoral dissertations were written mostly on Physical Education and sports field. In university basis it has been concluded that doctoral dissertations were extremely prepared at Gazi University.
