Investigation of energy production from biomass in turkey, current status and future forecast

Abstract (EN)

Our country's energy needs are generally met from fossil fuels. The main disadvantages of these fuels are that they pollute the environment and cause our country to be dependent on foreign sources. Biomass can be grown in various places, it is easy to store, it helps socio-economic developments and its environmental effects are positive compared to fossil sources. Biomass energy is used in different industries such as electricity, chemical raw materials and liquid fuels. Because of these features, biomass energy has gained importance for Turkey and this importance has increased gradually. In this study, Turkey's current energy situation, future energy scenarios, current situation of biomass energy potential and current potential in the future have been investigated. Agricultural and animal statistics were obtained from the Turkish Statistical Institute's 2021 data. According to the study, the total cultivated area is 15.856.352 hectares and the average dry biomass amount that can be obtained from this area is 436.049.652,6 tons. As a result of the calculations, the average dry biomass energy amount of this area is 176.600.109,4 TOE. This dry biomass is equivalent to 2.053.858 MW of energy. The total number of animals evaluated as a biomass energy source is 408,561,088. The amount of waste obtained from animals in Turkey is 96.655.868,18 tons. 4.309.771.358 m3/year biogas can be obtained from these wastes. This biogas is equivalent to 2.03x1010 kWh/year electrical energy.
