The effect of spatiality on regional development in Turkey

In this study, the economic conception approaches from traditional economic growth to regional development have been explained with the deductive method and the effect of the spatiality on regional development in Turkey has been searched. At the NUTS (Nomenclature of Units for Territorial Statistics) 3 level, whether there is a spatial dependence among the regional development indices of the provinces or not researched via the data was analyzed by means of Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method, Spatial Autoregressive Model (SAR) and Spatial Error Model (SEM); finally the results were interpreted. In this study, the effects of the explanatory variables determined as unemployment rate, net migration rate, life expectancy at birth, total number of enterprises, total electricity consumption per capita, gross national product, export value, import value and literacy rate on the regional development which has been determined as dependent variable, have been investigated in both econometric and spatial econometric methods.
