Analysis of youth comps in Turkey

Officially three institutions serve for youth camping in Turkey is Youth and Sports Administration (GSGM), National Education Ministry (MEB) and Red Crescent. According to 2007 census there were 18.809.26 (10) youth between 10 and 24 in Turkey. However, only 8.267 youth had been served in youth camps in 2008. These statistics indicate that only 5/10.000 of the youth population utilize from youth camps.The purpose of the present study is to find out perspectives and expectations of the both youth and camp leaders who attend as campers and educators mentioned above in intuitions' camps. The study is to give information about physical conditions of the camps and their practice methods.The data was analyzed with SPSS for Windows 13.0 program. To analyze the camp educators and campers' personal information ( gender, age, number of camp attendances and profession) frequency methods were used. In determining both campers and camp leaders' perspectives, arithmetic medium and standard deviation methods were utilized; visibilities were ignored. The level of significance for the surveys was examined at 0.05 level.The research showed that campers want camps not only in close central places but also in distant places as they construct new friendships at camps by the way. In addition to this, camp leaders (educators) stated that they work as camp leaders not to make money but because they like to work at camps as a part of their idealism in this issue.As a result, it is suggested that necessary advertising to reach greater amount of youth should be done and more camps should be opened in various cities.
