Abstract (EN)

INTRODUCTION AND AIM: Physicians are at risk of professional burnout due to intense work schedules, stressful work environments, and high levels of responsibility. The aim of this study is to determine the burnout levels of physicians working in Türkiye and the factors that may be associated with this burnout. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The research was designed as a cross-sectional study conducted among physicians working across Türkiye. The population of the study consists of physicians working in Türkiye, and the sample was selected using a randomized method. A survey, including demographic information and the Maslach Burnout Inventory, was administered to participants as a data collection tool. The survey results were statistically analyzed, and factors that could be related to burnout levels were examined. The study evaluated demographic, institutional, and workload-related variables that may influence burnout levels. RESULTS: The findings of the research indicate that a significant portion of physicians working in Türkiye experience moderate to high levels of burnout. Factors such as physicians' age, marital status, having children, years of practice, the sector in which they work, involvement in legal cases related to their job, administrative duties, exposure to violence at work, and patient load were found to be related to emotional exhaustion and depersonalization levels. Additionally, variables such as contemplating leaving the profession, working shifts, physical conditions of the working environment, support from auxiliary healthcare staff, and perceived income were found to be associated not only with emotional exhaustion and depersonalization levels but also with a sense of personal accomplishment. CONCLUSION: The results of this research reveal that physicians working in Türkiye are at risk of professional burnout, which negatively affects their professional performance.
