Research on the socio-economic structures of the athletes of field-hockey and ice-hockey, their reasons of doing these sports and their expectations

The aim of this research is to determine the socio-economic structures of the athletes of field-hockey and ice-hockey, their reasons of doing these sports and their expectations. The research has a descriptive method. In the light of the related literature, theoretical knowledge regarding the disciplines of field hockey and icehockey and socio-economic structure was given and this data was supported by other studies and quantitative data. Moreover, a questionnaire was given to the fieldhockey and ice-hockey athletes for the research. In the light of the data obtained from this questionnaire, a solution was searched for the problem of this study. The universe of this study consists of approximately 300 athletes at an average of 150 for each discipline from the club teams competing in the 2006-2007 season in field-hockey and ice-hockey disciplines. The athletes of the club teams of Ankara, ?stanbul, Kocaeli, Malatya, Osmaniye, Samsun, Gaziantep, Aksaray were selected. In this research, frequency and distribution rates were found by using data that was obtained via questionnaire. In the evaluation of this part T-Test, Anova test, Ki-kare test, Frequency test was used considering the given answers. SPSS 11.0 packet program was used to assess the data and the findings that were counted. As a result; it is concluded that there are differences in socioeconomic structures of the athletes of field-hockey and ice-hockey, however, there are similarities between their reasons of doing these sports and expectations.
