Adaptation problems of second generation Syrians in Turkey

Due to its geographical location, Türkiye is a country that has been receiving intense immigration for many years. However, although our country is a country of immigration, it has faced serious mass refugee migration after the civil war that started in Syria in 2011 for the first time. As a result of this mass migration, according to the data obtained from the General Directorate of Migration Management in our country, there are 3,388,698 Syrian refugees who took refuge in Turkey (T.R. Ministry of Interior, 2023). The presence of such a large refugee population has brought many problems with it. After the mass migration from Syria to our country, it is obvious that many practices have been implemented for the analysis and solution of these problems. However, when the studies are examined, it is seen that there are not enough applications where the secondary level needs are well analyzed and defined as problems, where the regulations are generally focused on solving the economic problems of Syrian refugees. However, in the studies conducted, second generation refugees were not generally evaluated as a separate group, their subjective problems were not analyzed, and their individual conditions were ignored with a generalist approach. Taking its subjectivity from here, our research was carried out in order to analyze the secondary level needs of the second generation Syrian refugee youth and children from a social work perspective and to develop solutions for the problems within the framework of the understanding of the individual in their environment. Using the qualitative research method, in-depth interviews were conducted with 12 second-generation Syrian refugee youth and children through a semi-structured interview form consisting of 21 questions. The needs were analyzed within the framework of the questions regarding the social cohesion, which is of critical importance for the positive social functioning of the human right to life, these needs were defined under the sub-headings as education problems, health problems, cultural assimilation problems and solution suggestions were presented.
