Oral health of children at the Libyan schools in Turkey

Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to describe the oral health status, oral hygiene habits, and a number of dietary habits of children attending Libyan schools in Turkey. The study involved 437 children aged between 6 and 12 years. The highest percentage of children visiting a dentist was found to be 41.2% for 11-years-old. The highest percentage of those not brushing their teeth was 15.3% and 15.7% for those aged 10 and 12 years, respectively. The percentage of those using a toothbrush and toothpaste was high in every age group (84-90%). The occurrences of caries in males and females were higher at between 84.6% and 85.0% in the 11-years-old group and higher among 12-years-old females. Missing teeth among 11-years-old occurred at a higher rate (61.5%). Filled teeth also occurred at a higher rate of 61.5% in the 11-years-old male group. For the 12-years-old group, missing teeth occurred at a rate of 60% and filled teeth at a rate of 44%. The average sugar consumption was also high at 73.8%.
