Comparative analysis of the hopelessness levels of the undergraduate students studying in the institutions in Turkey that are giving music education

The purpose of this research is for the comparative analysis of the hopelessness levels of the undergraduate students studying in the Music Departments of the Conservatories, the Fine Arts Faculties and the Music Education Departments of the Education Faculties. This research is a descriptive study in terms of the methods followed and the characteristics of the collected datas.Universe of the research is composed of totally 372 freshmen, sophomore, junior and senior students studying in the Music Department of the Hacettepe State Conservatory, the Music Department of the Erciyes University Fine Arts Faculty and the Music Education Department of the Gazi University Education Faculty. Whole of the universe is taken as a sample.In the research, Beck Hopelessness Scale is used as a tool of collecting datas. collective tool. First part of the scale comprises of 9 questions about personal informations of the students; and the second part includes Beck Hopelesness Scale with 20 articles. Results of the datas collected from the scale are explained through fundemental statistical methods.As a result of the symptoms of the research, no meaningful difference is detected in the hopelessness levels of the students according to their gender, ages, classes, main istruments and the income levels of their parents. However, a meaningful difference is detected in the hopelessness levels of the students according to the schools they are studying in, type of the high schools they graduate from and the education levels of their parents.Key Words: Conservatory, Fine Arts Faculty, Music Education Department, Beck Hopelessness Scale
