Printing techniques used in furniture sector in Turkey and influence of graphic designers on furniture design

Nowadays, there is a rapid development in the usage of printing techniques in furniture sector. With developing technology, instead of old-fashioned ornaments, easy and costly cheap developments have taken place in the production of furniture.Recently, the importance of Research and Development Department (RD) has emerged. In the past, furniture producers only used colorful melamine faced particle board because of financial problems; however, today most furniture firms have started to get support from graphic designers in order to make the ornaments powerful. In that sense, there is a need for evaluation of experts views on graphic designers taking part in this sector and development of suggestions emerged from the results.In the research, qualitative methods are used. In this respect, qualitative datas are taken from the interviews with sector specialists and education specialists. Research is limited with the opinions of Çanakkale Doğtaş Furniture, Eskişehir Cardin Furniture and education specialists. Furniture firms have established the research total field under survey and Çanakkale Doğtaş Furniture, Eskişehir Cardin Furniture have established the research examples.Research has examined the printing tecniques in furniture design; also interviews about the place of graphic designers in designing process have been made.According to the results; there is a need for graphic designers in furniture sector and the ornaments they applied have increased furniture sales.Some suggestions have been given.
