Ill THE PIANO EDUCATION IN THE INSTITUTES TRAINING MUSIC TEACHERS IN TURKEY (Ph. D. Thesis) Özer KUTLUK GAZI UNIVERSITY THE INSTITUTE OF SCIENCES November 2001 ABSTRACT The aim of this study is to search the general situation of the piano education in the institutes training music teachers in Turkey, and by way of this search, to contribute ideas and suggestions to the development of the piano education. In this study, the present situation of the piano education in the institutes which train music teachers, the personal features of teaching staff and the students on the piano education, the ideas of the present piano education, the ideas of the studies for developing programme in the piano education, the ideas of the examinations of the piano lessons, the ideas of the method books and works used in the piano education, the ideas of the difficulties and problems encountered in the piano education have been searched. To collect the data, a questionnaire of five measured-Likert type has been applied and the resources concerned have been scanned. The basic statistics technics have been used to work up the data.IV According to the results attained, suggestions have been made for making piano education more efficient.
