Determining and implementing the minimum lexicon at A1 - B1 level of "Russian Language and Literature" undergraduate programs in Turkey

The place of vocabulary, which is the basis of thinking and communicating, in human life is undeniable. This concept, which can be defined as the whole of words in a language, is an important research topic for many disciplines, especially lexicography. Naturally, vocabulary is an important element in the field of foreign language teaching methodology; because basic language skills are built on it. However, first of all, it is undoubted that determining the qualitative and quantitative dimensions of the vocabulary to be taught will enable reaching the teaching goals in a shorter time, especially in cases where the teaching time is limited. In the teaching of Russian as a foreign language, which words should be taught at which teaching stages are described in a teaching dictionary called "minimum vocabulary". In this study, it is aimed to determine the minimum vocabulary for the "Russian Language and Literature" undergraduate program in Turkey. For this purpose, first of all, minimum vocabulary determination principles for teaching Russian as a foreign language and minimum vocabulary examples published in Russia were examined. The vocabulary in the series "Doroga v Rossiyu", one of the Russian textbook series used for A1-B1 levels in Turkey, was determined and compared with the official minimum vocabulary of Russia. In line with the minimum vocabulary determination principles, lexical units that can form the A1-B1 level Russian minimum vocabulary for the "Russian Language and Literature" undergraduate program in Turkey have been determined. In this process, it was given importance to keep the words up to date and to include words for students in Turkey. In addition, Russia's official B1 level philology minimum vocabulary has been examined and adapted to the "Russian Language and Literature" undergraduate program in Turkey. It is hoped that the A1-B1 level general and B1 level vocational minimum vocabulary determined in the study will contribute significantly to the fields of Russian vocabulary teaching and learning in general, as well as the "Russian Language and Literature" undergraduate program in Turkey.
