Investigation of seafood consumption behaviours of academics related with fish in council of higher education in Turkey

Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted for determination of diet behaviours of academics stuffs related to fish in the council of higher education in Turkey (faculty, teaching assistants and research assistants). The relationship between demographic characteristics such as age, gender, income level and education level of the participants and their consumption preferences were interpreted. Within the scope of the research, to determine the consumption status of fish, questionnaire results consisting of 30 questions were sent to 251 people online. 99,20% of the consumers surveyed consume fish, while 0.80% do not prefer fish and other aquatic products. 59.80% of the participants are male and 40.20% are female. According to the research findings, it was found that 42.20% of consumers consume fish once a week. Regarding the reasons for preferring fish, it was determined that 243 people are nutritious and tasteful and 6 people prefer it because of its cheapness and other reasons. According to the survey responses, anchovy was determined as the most consumed fish species with a rate of 28.20% and bream with a rate of 23,40%. In the study, the most consumed seafood other than fish are octopus, squid with a rate of 40.70%. 79.50% of consumers generally prefer fishermen to purchase fish and other seafood.
