Teachers' views on speaking and listening skills of students who migrated from Syria

The aim of this study is to determine the opinions of classroom teachers about the listening and speaking skills of Syrian students. This research using a phenomenology screening model and the study group consisted of 30 classroom teachers who work in the Altınözü district of Hatay and have Syrian students in their class. As a data collection tool, semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher was used. There are 18 open-ended questions in this form. The obtained data were analyzed by descriptive analysis technique. As a result of the research, it was determined that the Turkish listening and speaking skills of Syrian students are not sufficient, the curriculum is inadequate for Syrian students and the 2018 Turkish Program needs to be updated. At the same time, it was determined that the interest of Syrian students in Turkish speaking and listening skills is not sufficient and teachers who have insufficient textbooks should use more activities and materials. In addition, the solution suggestions of the teachers for improving Syrian students' Turkish speaking and listening skills were determined.
