Abstract (EN)
The Syrian popular uprising in March 2011 and the subsequent internal conflict forced a large number of Syrians to take refuge in the neighboring country Turkey. Because of Turkey's "Open Door" policy towards the people fleeing the war, the number of refugees reached millions in short period of time and Turkey started to face the challenge introduced by the Syrian Refugee crisis. Turkey's policies were based on the assumption that the civil war will be short lived. Thus in order to meet the educational needs of Syrians, Turkey established "Temporary Education Centers" and expanded them throughout the country. In these centers, where Syrian refugees receive education from the first grade of primary school to the last year of high school, that is to the twelfth grade, all the courses other than Turkish are taught by Syrian teachers themselves. The curriculum that was taught in the past in Syria was modified through a collaborative effort between the Provisional Government of Syria and the Turkish Ministry of Education, and subsequently printed and distributed to all Syrian students studying in these centers. The subject of this thesis is the Arabic textbooks taught in Temporary Education Centers. In this context, the focus of this thesis is the analysis of Arabic textbooks and their Arabic Language and Literature subjects taught in the three-year education period covering only the high school period. Taking into consideration that the subject of this thesis lays in the field of social sciences, the first part of the thesis is dedicated to the following topics: Syrian refugees in Turkey, their numbers, Syrians in the age of education, Temporary Education Centers and the changing education policy of Turkey towards Syrian.
