An analysis of female nicknames used in popular matrimonial websites in Turkey in terms of onomastics

The name is the primary element that introduces the individual to the society and enables her to gain a status in the society. Nicknames, on the other hand, are the names taken as a makeshift name other than the person's own name. People generally create nicknames for use on social medias. Among these nicknames, especially the names on marriage sites and, more specifically, the names of women used while becoming a member of these sites attract attention. With this study, the reasons of women's nickname usage on marriage sites that are widely used in Turkey, whether there is a relationship between the person and the nickname they use, and the place of these names in onomastics will be revealed. In our study, observation technique and document analysis method, which are qualitative research methods, were used. According to the datas abtained as a result of this study, it has been determined that the women who joined the marriage sites created a pseudonym by making use of expressions that are directly or indirectly related themselves such as the license plate code of the city or hometown of the women who are members of the marriage site, birthdates, ages, professions, favorite TV series, movie, song, book, etc.
