Democratization in Turkey and Turgut Özal Period political liberalism

Democracy, which was in antique Greece and affective in some periods of the history, has important changes in consequence of periodical conditions and varying social needs in time, in this way it has been discussed in different political theories in conjunction with being approached again by a number of philosophers and theorists. This study focuses on the developments in the period of democracy in historical process till political liberalism in the term of Turgut Özal and efforts of democratisation in the thought of political liberalism in the period of Turgut Özal. The practices that Özal and his party ANAP made are the most debated issues concerning political life in Turkey. When it comes to Özal, while it pointed to the economic practices that they made, the political practices were largely ignored. Özal is a political leader who made important commitments regarding expansions of fundamental rights and freedoms as well as the integration of the Judicial System of Turkey into the Judicial System of European Union. Democratisation movements in Turkey made during his period has contributed significantly to become a more democratic country. In this study, practices that Özal made in the political liberalism and the speeches he made will be essentially analysed.
