Özet (EN)
As part of energy efficiency, it is necessary to reduce energy consumption of buildings which are insufficiently equipped in terms of conservation of energy, besides designing the buildings to be constructed in an energy-efficient manner. Thus aim of this thesis study is to lay emphasis on development of refurbishment strategies in degree-day regions of Turkeyin line with the TS 825 Standard and climatic characteristics, and refurbishment of existing building pile-up in Turkey in an energy-efficient manner. This thesis study includes energy-efficient refurbishment of a mass housing projects which have TOKİ planning scheme executed in different degree-day regions of Turkey, and are insufficient in terms of conservation of energy, in accordance with the TS 825 Standard and climatic characteristics and analysis of effects of suggestions made on the energy performance of the buildings. Effects of refurbishments made for the improvement of thermal performance of opaque and transparent components was calculated by Design Builder simulation program, and heating-cooling loads, consumptions of electricity, natural gas and total energy and changes in the CO2 emission in four regions were analyzed in line with the suggestions made for the regions. Total energy consumption was reduced in the rate of 35.7% in Erzurum, 32.2% in Ankara, 27.3% in Istanbul and 19.3% in Antalya by means of the refurbishment proposals that provide the highest saving. The effect of refurbishment strategies on the performance of an existing building is less in hot climates in comparison to the cold climates, and especially in hot climates basic energy-efficient principles of designing, such as orientation, building form, transparency ratio, should be applied for a completed building instead of making improvements. Increasing insulation thickness of opaque components in line with the heat loss, improving thermal performance of transparent components, when necessary sun control are important for the improvements to be realized in the buildings in different climatic zones of Turkey in terms of energy-efficiency of the building.
