The reflections of government grants on renewable energy sector in Turkey

The importance of renewable energy sources has been important issue to decrease the detrimental effects which which results from the misuse of fossil energy resources. With this aim, countries aim to increase the utilisation of renewable energy sources in the generation of energy by supporting the renewable energy investments with different government grants. In this study, grants given by the government to increase the utilisation of renewable energy sources are investigated in Turkey. Within this framework, the historical development of energy, renewable energy sources, and government grants in Turkey and other countires are investigated in detail. As a result, the level of competence of grants are evaluated, and it is suggested that the investment consultancy services before and after the investmens; the encouraging the research and development activities: the facilitating granting permissions and licences and the increasing of domestic equipment production and consumption should be taken in consideration. Moreover, consumers should be included into scope of government grants. Key Words: Energy, Renewable Energy, Renewable Energy Sources, Government Grants
